Supply chain visibility solutions provider Vizion on Wednesday launched its latest feature, Intermodal Rail Tracking, a supportive tool for the company’s fundamental container tracking product.
With the aim of providing full supply chain transparency, often overlooked is the movement of containers from vessels to their inland destinations. The new feature will give shippers and logistics service providers insight into events, including last free dates and available pickup dates, to avoid access charges.
All Class I railways of North America — Union Pacific, Canadian Pacific Kansas City, BNSF, CSX, Norfolk Southern and CN — are participating in the solution.
“End-to-end supply chain visibility is an elusive goal for all shippers and logistics service providers. With rail tracking now complementing our existing ocean tracking solution, Vizion users can draw closer to that goal in a way that is seamless and easy to integrate,” said Kyle Henderson, Vizion co-founder and chief executive officer, in the news release.
The tracking solution also offers a unique feature that allows Vizion users to receive all tracking updates for all containers across both ocean and rail with a single letter of authorization. The traditional process asks all those not listed on a waybill to provide letters for each container to be tracked.
Once that single letter of authorization has been placed with each mode’s provider, Vizion’s Intermodal Rail Tracking tool will push events to shippers and logistics providers’ internal transportation management systems, giving instant visibility. Systems available for the integration include SAP, Oracle, Descartes and Magaya.
