The Bank of England said it’s experiencing “intermittent technological communication problems” that are affecting its ability to process transactions for wholesale counterparties.
The issue is affecting a “limited” number of transactions, and the BOE implemented a workaround to complete them in as “timely a way as possible,” the U.K. central bank said in astatement Thursday.
The issue isn’t affecting the real-time settlement service or payment systems, which handle billions of pounds a day, so there shouldn’t be any disruption to daily banking services for the general public. An outage there a few years ago held up bank transfers, affected house-purchase deals and prompted a major review.
