U.S. Bancorp had three branches, all in Minneapolis, damaged during the riots that stemmed from the death of George Floyd, and plans are coming together for rebuilding.

Bank officials said they’re in ongoing dialogue with local community leaders to gather their input and plan to use minority-owned contractors at each site.

The three branches are still closed. Here’s a summary of each site:

919 E. Lake St.

The building is no longer structurally sound and will be demolished this fall. Minneapolis-based U.S. Bank said it hopes to break ground on a new stand-alone branch at the site in the spring and reopen by fall of 2021. Also, the facility will have space for community groups to use and meet.

Currently, the bank has a mobile banking unit there providing services three days a week.

2800 E. Lake St.

This branch is relocating. Since the site so close to a Light Rail station, U.S. Bank will donate the land to a nonprofit and use the site for a mixed-use development. Few details are available about the project, but the bank hopes to have it completed by 2023.

“Because of our desire to reopen a branch sooner, we are purchasing a site at 36th and Lake,” the bank said in a statement. “This will allow us to provide permanent banking services to the community by August 2021.”

Currently, the bank has a mobile banking unit at the current site providing services three days a week.

1030 W. Broadway

The branch did not suffer as much damage as the others, so it’s expected to reopen sooner. The bank plans to make this location similar to one of its new streamlined branches. The new-look locations don’t have traditional tellers behind counters. Instead, customers will find digital work stations that include tablets and other electronic devices, such as an Interactive Teller Machine (think a super ATM), that they can use to accomplish a range of tasks.

The branch is scheduled to open by summer of 2021.
